JULY 26, 2012, 5:00 PM -10:00 PM, join YVYLA as it hosts its first annual E-Race Youth Homelessness go-kart fundraising event at the Gas Engine Go Kart course (217 East Center Dr., San Bernardino, CA 92408). This evening promises more than fun, with your participation it also offers homeless youth (ages 17 and under) food and a warm bed at YVYLA’s Visionary Homes youth shelter in San Bernardino, CA, which opened a few months ago. Over 25,000 homeless youth wander within San Bernadino, CA each day.

Visionary Home youth homeless shelter opens in San Bernardino – San Bernardino County Sun

SAN BERNARDINO — Terrance Stone started out with a backpack and a dream.

Part of the “dream” was a clean four-bed home on the north side of town.

Young Visionaries Youth Leadership Academy has just opened the home as a runaway and homeless youth shelter, open 24/7.

The house is the only youth shelter in the city and one of only two youth shelters in San Bernardino County, according to Young Visionaries founder and CEO Terrance Stone.

“I’m really committed to this 1,000 percent,” Stone said. “Our staff is here 24/7 and we’re always busy because we’re in the business of saving lives.”

Green Job Training and Education

Young Visionaries is beginning a green job training and education effort as part of its employment development program. Building green communities cannot be achieved without youth well-equipped to enter the workforce with a strong green mindset. The issues of dwindling resources, clean water and air, climate concerns and toxins are not reserved for future generations but are real problems to address today.
The program helps to further strengthen positive oppotunities for at-risk youth, turning them away from negative lifestyles. The program offers them employment in “green-collar” work, which addresses sustainability needs that are both domestic and worldly. Through this program the hope is to impart knowledge so that these youth shall truly understand what it means to “inhierit the earth,” compelling them to build communities and industries which reflect that idea.

San Bernardino Ranked 3rd Highest in Gang Activity Nationwide

Last Friday, October 28th, the 2011 National Gang Threat Assessment report was released. In the report, San Bernardino County, California, ranked third nationally with 40,558 identified gang members. Cook County, Illionis came in second with 60,125 identified gang members. Los Angeles County took first place with 68,208, according to FBI numbers.

Although Young Visionaries has centers in multiple states, San Bernardino is where the organization’s central office is located, and where the group orginated. The report reflects the enormous need to help at-risk youth within YVYLA’s home service area. San Bernardino County Supervisor, Neil Derry, said the proliferation of gang members in the county is a demographic trend dating back more than 20 years, tied to a migration of low-income families from neighboring counties seeking more affordable housing. Terrance Stone Named Finalist in 2011 Spirit of Entrepreneur Award

Young Visionaries founder and CEO, Terrance Stone was nominated as one of 25 top finalist in this year’s Spirit of the Entrepreneur Award. The “Spirit Award” is intended to honor top business leaders within California’s Inland Empire. The award ceremony is scheduled for early November.

New YVYLA Business Employment Program Instructs Youth to Be Entrepreneurs
